Cinco De Mayo 2

May 5, 2011

This day has always been a fun and relaxing for my husband and I. Two years ago right now we were just 4 days away from saying I do and yet we decided to throw a Cinco De Mayo party. This was completely crazy according to my mom who thought we couldn’t possibly take time to enjoy good food and friends with so much to do and so few days left to get everything done. But we did anyways and ever since then I have so many good feelings about this holiday that we Americans love to celebrate that every year we make it special. For today I am making something different, a spiced margarita with a little bit of grapefruit juice thrown in!

This is a Punto Pomelo courtesy of Food and Wine magazine. And its freakin delicious!

  1. 1/2 cup sugar
  2. 1/2 cup water
  3. 1/2 cinnamon stick, broken
  4. 3 whole cloves
  5. Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
  6. Ice
  7. 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  8. 2 tablespoons fresh grapefruit juice
  9. 1/4 cup silver tequila
  10. 1 cherry, for garnish (optional)
  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, water, cinnamon stick, cloves and nutmeg. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool, then strain.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the lime juice, grapefruit juice, tequila and 2 tablespoons of the spiced simple syrup. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled collins glass. Garnish with a cherry, if desired.
I made mine exactly as the recipe calls for and its seriously sooo good! Just a little bit of spice, now if I could just figure out how to make my backyard look like this to sit and enjoy it!
